Value Poly vs Polymax: Which Underfloor Insulation Should I Choose?

If you have landed here, you are probably already convinced about polyester underfloor insulation.  Excellent. Sensible choice.

Polyester is non-itchy, moisture-tolerant, durable and much nicer to handle under a house than many traditional insulation materials. It can be stapled securely to timber joists, removed for future inspections if needed, and re-stapled without turning into a regretful life choice.

So the next question is not really “Should I choose polyester?”

The next question is:

“Which polyester underfloor insulation should I choose – Value Poly or Polymax?”

The good news is that both are good options. This is not a “good product versus terrible product” comparison. We do not sell poor quality underfloor insulation because ecoMaster’s whole existence is about quality and doing something once, properly.

The better question is:

Which one is the best fit for your home, your budget and your location?

The quick answer

Choose Value Poly if you want a good-quality, budget-friendlier polyester underfloor insulation product and you are located in Victoria, Western Australia or Tasmania.

Choose Polymax if you want the premium polyester option, are happy to pay more for it, or live in a location where Polymax has better distribution or depot collection options.

Sometimes the decision is beautifully simple. Sometimes freight constraints barges in and makes the decision for you.

What is Value Poly?

Value Poly is our budget-friendlier polyester underfloor insulation option.

It is designed for homeowners who want the practical benefits of polyester – non-itchy handling, moisture tolerance, good durability and DIY-friendly installation – without paying premium-product pricing.

Value Poly is manufactured in Melbourne and Perth, which makes it especially useful for customers in Victoria and Western Australia.  Local manufacturing and local supply matter because underfloor insulation is bulky. You are not posting a birthday card. You are moving large rolls of insulation around the country, and freight can become a very real part of the total cost.  Having said that, we are also excited to have distribution of Value Poly into Tasmania!

Value Poly is a strong choice if you want a reliable polyester product that does the job well and keeps the project more accessible.  We worked with the manufacturers to ensure that the insulation we were selling is something that we are very happy to put our name on.

It is a practical, good-quality option.

What is Polymax?

Polymax is the premium polyester underfloor insulation option, manufactured by CSR Bradford in Sydney.  Polymax is backed by CSR Bradford’s 70-year product performance warranty

It has a strong structure, excellent performance and a long-established reputation as a premium polyester insulation product. If you are the kind of person who wants the top-tier option and is happy to pay more for it, Polymax is likely to appeal.

Polymax can also be the most practical choice depending on where you live. In New South Wales, for example, Polymax is distributed through a wide depot network, which can make collection much more cost-effective. If you can collect from a depot and avoid bulky freight charges, the premium product may make more sense than expected.

So while Polymax is the premium option, the final decision is not only about product quality. It is also about availability, depot access and freight.  Because insulation maths is rarely just insulation maths – freight is a huge factor.

Is Polymax better than Value Poly?

Both Value Poly and Polymax are polyester underfloor insulation products, so both give you the key benefits we want under a timber floor: they are non-itchy, moisture-tolerant, durable and practical for DIY installation.

Value Poly is our good-quality, budget-friendlier polyester option. It is available in 450mm width and carries a 25-year product warranty. In Victoria and Western Australia, it is often the most practical choice because it is locally manufactured, helping keep the product more accessible.

Polymax is the premium polyester option, manufactured by CSR Bradford. It is available in 430mm and 450mm widths and is backed by CSR Bradford’s 70-year product performance warranty. It has strong structure, excellent performance, you want the premium product, or live in a state where Polymax distribution and depot collection make it more cost-effective.

So the choice is not simply “cheap versus good”. It is about the right product for your joist spacing, your location, your budget and how you want to balance price, performance and warranty.

Choose Value Poly if you want a reliable, more accessible polyester option and 450mm width suits your joist spacing.

Choose Polymax if you want the premium option, need 430mm or 450mm width, or want the reassurance of CSR Bradford’s 70-year product performance warranty.

Why location matters so much

Underfloor insulation is bulky. That means freight can have a surprisingly large impact on the final cost.

This is why we do not pretend that one product is always the perfect choice for everyone in every state. The product itself matters, of course. But so does where it is manufactured, where it can be collected, and whether it needs to be delivered to your home.

At the moment, the general picture looks like this:

Victoria
Value Poly is usually the most practical option because it is manufactured locally in Melbourne. That helps keep it accessible and cost-effective.

Western Australia
Value Poly is also a strong option because it is manufactured in Perth. Again, local supply helps avoid freight pain.

New South Wales
Polymax is often the most practical option because it is manufactured in Sydney and can be distributed cost-effectively across NSW through multiple depots. In many cases, customers can collect without freight costs.

South Australia
Polymax is available in South Australia and can be collected from the depot, making it a practical option for many customers.

Canberra
Polymax is available in Canberra, but it must be delivered to your home. Depot collection is not available from that busy commercial location.

Tasmania
Value Poly is available in Tasmania.  We have a depot near Launceston which allows for pre-arranged pickup.  However, we can deliver just about anywhere in Tassie.

Queensland
Polymax is not currently a practical option for Queensland because the freight cost are simply too high.

This is why we often guide customers by state first, then product preference.

Not because we are trying to make life complicated but because freight got there first.

Which one should I choose?

So the real answer is:

Choose Value Poly when you want a reliable, budget-friendlier polyester option and it is locally available. Choose Polymax when you want the premium option, when depot collection makes it cost-effective, or when it is the best available product in your region.

Do they install differently?

The basic installation principle is the same.

Both products need to be fitted between the timber joists, pushed snugly against the underside of the floorboards, and stapled securely so they stay in place.

The installation quality matters enormously. Underfloor insulation cannot do its job properly if it is sagging, gapping or hanging under the floor like a hammock. Whether you choose Value Poly or Polymax, the goal is the same: firm, neat, continuous coverage against the underside of the floor.

So once you have chosen the product, the next step is to measure properly and install properly.

No shortcuts, no “she’ll be right” under the floor. Your floor will know – and so will the rodents.

Final verdict

Value Poly and Polymax are both polyester underfloor insulation products we are happy to recommend.

The right choice depends on your location, budget, freight costs, pickup options and whether you want the reliable option or the premium option.

Either way, you are choosing polyester – and that is the important first step.  Because under a timber floor, you want insulation that is non-itchy, durable, moisture-tolerant, secure to install and sensible for the long haul.
